This is the first one-person United States museum exhibition of this German photographer. Struth's anonymous images of urban environments contrast, for example: the stark and obliterating scale of New York with the intimate closure and ambience of Rome. In all of Struth's images the continuing perseverance of the individual is maintained and heightened through the subtle cultural clues of each image's architecture and signage.
