Edgar Degas

Etchings
May 04 – June 12, 1964

This will be the largest and most comprehensive collection of Edgar Degas' etchings ever shown together. A group of approximately 100 etchings and copperplates (some of which have never before been shown) will be on view.

Mr. Paul Moses, instructor in the Department of Art and the College at the University of Chicago, has been responsible for organizing this collection. During the past year he has been in Europe engaged in research on the work of Degas. He has been commissioned to write a book on Degas by the Societe des Arts et Metiers Graphiques of Paris (American affiliate Harry Abrams of New York) to be published in 1966, and will prepare the catalogue for the Renaissance Society show. The foreword of the catalogue will be by John Rewald, Professor of Art at the University of Chicago and internationally known authority on 19th Century French Art.
