Installation View, 2012

The Renaissance Society will present an exhibition by Vietnam-born, Berlin-based artist Danh Vo, opening on September 23rd. When Vo was four, his family fled South Vietnam in a homemade boat, and was rescued at sea by a Danish ship. His family?s assimilation to European culture and the world historical events that precipitated their flight from Vietnam are intertwined in his artistic practice, which juxtaposes historical and personal artifacts.

The Renaissance Society will present previously exhibited and new work by Vo, in addition to collaborating with the Art Institute to bring Voʼs ongoing project We The People to Chicago. The multi-piece project will be shown at AIC and the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park. Fragments will be installed at the Oriental Institute, the Booth School of Business and University of Chicago Law School.
