In 1927 he exhibited at the Carnegie International Exhibition which revealed a mature art and an imagination which manifests itself om great line rhythms. Quite recently he turned to Hungarian lanscape and thus carries on the tradition of Hungarian art as represented by Munkacsy and Paal. Following the great upheaval of the past few years there is a close relationship between the Hungarian life of today and the rather tragic conception of life held by Munkacsy and Paal. Grunwald has reestablished this contact and is the very first to continue the pathos and sonority of his predecessors. He can elevate and refine the simplest motifs, making color melodies of the daily events of country life. -from catalog, 1931
