Varda Caivano
February 22 – April 19, 2015
London-based Argentinian artist Varda Caivano presents her first solo museum exhibition in the United States. Modest yet seductive, familiar yet mysterious, Caivano’s canvases are layered with paint, rubbed, scratched, and reworked to produce richly expressive compositions. The paintings’ visceral physicality draws attention to their surfaces, while abstract flourishes of color – browns, pinks, purples, and greens – create depth. This tension is eminently pleasurable, inviting the viewer to linger as textures and forms emerge.
Caivano’s Renaissance Society exhibition features entirely new works, many of which were created in her hometown of Buenos Aires.
