This exhibition brings together the work of 24 artists who all have contributed to a growing interest in contemporary American protraiture. That renewed interest no doubt is connected to the return of figure painting which dates from the early 1960s. Drawing and painting are given the most represented, but the show also includes sculpture, photography and an audio tape. The exhibition is not on a scale to be able to constitute an overview, but is rather a sampling of some of the very many ways in which contemporary artists approach a venerable genre.
