Jeff Wall

January 09 – February 20, 1983

Jeff Wall
Mimic, 1982
Cibachrome transparency, florescent light
78? x 90?

The first exhibition in the United States devoted to works by Canadian artist Jeff Wall. Mr. Wall is a realist photographer who makes huge cibachrome transparencies which are mounted in luminous backlit frames. Wall's images are carefully contrived studio set-ups, relating to the movie studio and painter's studio, to forms of mass media, and to the traditional forms of art history. They are structural analyses of the act of image-making.
