Gabriel Sierra
May 03 – June 28, 2015
Colombian artist Gabriel Sierra’s projects frequently react to the site of exhibition, transforming the architectural environment to challenge our understanding of and behavior within a space. Trained in architecture and industrial design and drawing on the rich history of Latin American Modernism, Sierra is interested in the language of everyday objects and symbols, which he explores in sculptural works whose aesthetic brings together formal elegance and poetic playfulness.
For his Renaissance Society exhibition, the artist’s first solo show in an American museum, Sierra engages with the unusual geometric features of the institution’s neo-gothic Bergman Gallery.
