This exhibition comprises a retrospective selection of paintings, drawings and prints, many of which are being exhibited for the first time, by Chicago painter and draughtsman Dan Ramirez. The 38 works in the show have all been selected by the artist as pivotal and definitive examples of his stylistic evolution and compositional concerns. The works range from early 1972 abstractions derived from traditional still life pictorial motifs to the most recent large paint and graphite works which project a spiritual sense of and examination of human awareness. Ramirez's art, which superficially seems focused on purely formal interrelationships of geometric shapes, reveals itself in this show as actually highly personal in its inflections of color, dynamic line, light, shade, and form. The artist employs these elements in the articulation of his special concern: the perceptual evocation of inner states of mind and feeling.
