Eiva is the 1980 awardee of the University of Chicago Midway Studios Prize, which is given each year to the outstanding graduate of its Master of Fine Arts program. The prize consists of $500 and an exhibition at The Renaissance Society's Bergman Gallery. The five enormous canvases on display are an exciting exploration of color, shape and perspective. The artist states: "The paintings are essentially comprised of dualities. They have separate entities, usually two in number, organized on the surface in opposition to each other. I seek to engage the viewer in thinking's active process by presenting potential situations which offer the flexibility of diverse interpretations and distinction-making."
