She will examine topics explored by works in the exhibition including: the formation of subjectivity within language, as developed by the theory of Jacques Lacan; the relations of specularity enforced through the dominant media of photographs and cinema; the construction and reinforcement of sexual stereotypes and roles; and the varied tactics of rupture which attempt to provide space for the admission of repressed female subjectivity.
