LECTURE: Ghosts Along the Mississippi: Louisiana Plantation Architecture
February 10 – February 10, 1950

This lecture will be based upon the author's book "Ghosts Along the Mississippi," published recently by Charles Scribner's Sons (publisher's folder for which is herein enclosed), and will deal not only with the architectural evolution of the Louisiana plantation houses, but with their poetic quality as well, and also with some of the stories associated with the houses. Additionally, the author will attempt to show that some houses did appear in 19th century Louisiana which were actually designed in terms of the materials used- thus allying them, at least partially, with modern architecture. The significance of Louisiana in our American architectural heritage will be shown, and some material which was obtained too late to get into the book will also be covered.

The lecture will be accompanied by at least 50 black and white lantern slides (standard size), and will take approximately an hour to deliver.

An exhibition of the original prints used in "Ghosts Along the Mississippi" is now being circulated throughout the country by the American Federation of Arts- and bookings are now open for 1949. In some instances it will be possible to arrange the delivery of the lecture during the period of the booking of the AFA exhibit- however, the booking of the exhibit is optional.
