Ensemble Noamnesia and Polwechsel

Location: The Renaissance Society
Admission: free

These two evenings pair Chicago and Austria's premiere new music ensembles for a double bill of contemporary Austrian music. Over the past ten years, Ensemble Noamnesia, led by Gene Coleman and joined by various soloists, has been performing chamber music works by the world's foremost composers.
Since 1995, Polwechsel, a quartet featuring Werner Daffeldecker (bass), Michael Moser (cello), Burkhard Stangl (guitar), and John Butcher (sax), has made three outstanding recordings and performed throughout Europe and North America. Their music is a delicate mixture of composed and improvised music.
Fridays bill will feature works by Olga Neuwirth, Beat Furrer, Roman Haubenstock-Ramatti, and a commissioned work by Guisburg.
Saturday's bill features a chamber opera by Burkhard Stangl for the first set and a performance by Polwechsel for the second set. Featured vocalist for Stangl's opera is Julia Bentley.
